Our special China National Day lion came out to play at the Glen Eira College on Friday 16th October. We performed Hoksan music followed by a lion dance where the lion had to retrieve a strung up lettuce. We would like to thank Mr Tom Lin for booking us for the performance.

Three lions performed at The Peak, Flemington Racecourse tonight for the Honorary Degree ceremony for Professor Cheng Wei and the 10th anniversary of Liaoning University partnership with Victoria University. For this special occasion, we used for the first time in Melbourne, a lion which commemorates the 60th anniversary of China Day National Day (from the Sydney Opera House performance) We would like to thank the Events team (Sharon and Rachael) for booking us.

The Hong De wedding lion performed at another wedding tonight in Port Melbourne at '3 Station Pier'. The Spirit of Tasmania was just leaving the pier and the sun was setting over the bay when we arrived at the venue. Congratulations to Tam and Michelle and we hope you enjoyed our performance!

On Thursday 8th October, the Hong De lions joined a variety of entertainers to promote Macau tourism at the Atlantic on Central Pier, Docklands. This is our second performance in the same venue. The entertainment for the night kicked off with two lions followed by jugglers, trapeze artists, fire-eaters, plate spinners, etc. The finale of the show was 'Laserman', a sound and laser light show. We would like to thank David Power from International Productions for involving us in this well executed event.

Locals at the Box Hill Library, hoping to get some peace and quiet were awakened with the sound the drum and cymbals. We performed in the children's reading area and amused our young and old audience gathered for the performance. Fiesta Malaysia 20009 was declared open today by Deputy High Commissioner Mr Fadil Shamsuddin and City of Melbourne Councillor Mr Ken Ong. Despite the poor weather, there was a good crowd, especially when it was not raining. After a delayed start, there were plenty of entertainment for the afternoon. Thank you to Aida and her team for organising the event.

On Sunday 6th September, 60 new lions were dotted and danced for the first time on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. The event was to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The event was attended by the Premier of NSW, the Chinese Consul from Sydney, the Chinese Ambassador from Canberra and various other guests. There were 15 participating lion dance teams from Sydney and 3 interstate teams (Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane). The event was submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records. We would like to thank Henry Lo from Jin Wu Koon for inviting us to perform at such a grand event.

Hong De Lion travelled to Aspendale yesterday for a Chinese Cultural Day at St Louis de Montfort. We performed twice during lunchtime for Junior and Senior students. During the first peformance for the Junior students, our poor lion was mobbed by lolly-hungry school children! In all, it was a fun day for students and lion dance performers. A big thanks to Ms Yue Ren for organising a successful Chinese Cultural day at school.

The Hong De Lion was at Methodist Ladies College, Kew today to help celebrate Chinese Day during Language Week at the school. The middle school students were treated to a BBQ and being entertained by our lion dance at the same time. Much to the delight of the students, the lion threw oranges and lollies to the crowd. Thank you to Mr David Liu for organising the event.

 Hong De Lion was at the Buchan Street Community Centre for a multicultural Dance Festival in Meadow Heights on Saturday 25th July. Our lion dance performance was first on the prorgram followed by performances from various cultural groups from the local community. Hong De Lions joined the Federation of Chinese Associations to show support for multicultural diversity in Victoria. Walk for Harmony was led by Premier John Brumby from Carlton Gardens to Federation Square. A large number of cultural groups were involved in the walk. Our colourful lions and the FCA's dragons added to the festivities on the day.

We celebrated our first anniversary on the weekend with invited guests, friends and family of members. Our members have been rehearsing for three performances for our guests that day. The event kicked off with a traditional 'Four Gate Blessing' of the studio with our two gold lions. This was followed by award presentations by our special guest, Councillor Ken Ong from the City of Melbourne. The music team then presented a fully choreographed routine followed by a one lion traditional performance. Thank you for all who participated in this special event, hope you all enjoyed the performances and afternoon tea! Well done to the performers that day and a big thanks to all the helpers as well.

 Another first for Hong De - we performed inside a Church for a wedding on Saturday 6th June. The lion surprised wedding guests by performing down the aisle at St Mary Catholic Church in East St Kilda before the bride walked down the aisle. Later, our lion was outside entertaining the guests before the arrival of the bridal couple at Gingerboy in Crossley Lane. Congratulations to Ben and Sally and special thanks to Father Barry for letting us perform in his parish church!

Hong De Lion Dance performed at an 'International Day (iDay)' at the William Angliss Institute on Friday 5th June. We performed at the foyer, the International Office, the Library and the Student's Lounge at the 'World Environment Day Expo'. The event was organised by students at William Angliss, special thanks to Anna for looking after us that day!
