News on Hong De Lion Dance activities.

 Pho House OpeningWe performed at the opening of Pho House in Flemington Road, Flemington on the weekend. The restaurant was packed with customers and service was stopped during the lion dance performance. We lit two strings of firecrackers at the start of the performance and ended with another two strings at the end of the performance - a lot of fire power for the new restaurant. We would like to wish Kevin and his staff all the best and thank you for booking us!

 We were invited to perform at Sunshine Hospital's Open Day for the Grand Opening of the new Community Based Rehabilitation Building. Our lion performed in the foyer of the main hospital for visitors to the hospital. Thank you Julie and Nancy for booking us and helping with getting the performance ready today.

Chinabar Signature Buffet, Epping PlazaWe performed at the Grand Opening at Epping Plaza for China Bar Signature Buffet. This is our second opening for China Bar, the last one was in the City last year. Our first performance was a roving performance around the food court area and at the China Bar take away shop inside. The second was actually inside China Bar Signature Buffet, two hours later. In between performances, we were invited for a buffet meal in the restaurant. A big thanks to China Bar management and Isabelle for booking us again. We certainly enjoyed the great meal!

Birralee Primary SchoolOur team performed in Birralee Primary School today to launch the opening of a new building block. Mary Woolridge MP, Member for Doncaster was there to officiate the opening of the new building with Headmaster Mr Ashley Ryan. A big thanks to Stella from the Parents Association for suggesting a lion dance and organised the booking with us.

Shannon and Reegan at Potters Receptions, WarrandyteWe were booked by Shannon and Reegan quite a while ago for their wedding reception at Potters Receptions in Warrandyte. Both of them had done Chinese martial arts in the past and wanted to have a traditional Chinese blessing at their wedding. Our lions had a little bit of difficulty in manouevering their jumps between the rafters in the ceiling, but managed without any major bumps! Congratulations to both Shannon and Reegan and thanks for having us as part of your celebrations!

Car Wash Sunshine

We had another first on the weekend. We performed for an opening of a new Car Wash in Sunshine! It was a late booking but we managed to get there for the performance before we went training. Thank you to Tri for booking us!

We performed at the launch of a new apartment building site in North Melbourne tonight. The apartments are called NORTH @33 Flemington Road, right opposite The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Melbourne University. Thank you very much to the UAG Holdings group for booking us!

It was AFL Grand Final on Saturday in Melbourne and we were asked to perform at one of our Member's family wedding. Our wedding lions performed in front of the bridal party and family members amongst 300 guests at Florian Receptions in Elsternwick. Asian Beer Cafe, Melbourne CentralSwinburne UniversityBox Hill Centro Full Moon FestivalIt has been a busy week for our lions with performances three days in a row (unusual for Melbourne). We kicked off at Asian Beer Cafe in Melbourne Central on Thursday night with a roving performance through the very packed out venue. You can see a short Instagram video here. The following night, we were in Hawthorn at Swinburne University for Vietnamese International Students Association's Full Moon Festival event. This is the second year in a row we have performed there. A short Youtube clip can be found here. Yesterday, we were at Box Hill where the Moon Festival was in full swing. We performed inside both the Box Hill Centro shopping centres and attracted huge crowds following us! Thank you to all our clients who booked us, we had a blast. 中秋节快乐!

On the weekend we performed at a fund raising event for the Australian Children's Choir. A group of about 50 children will be accompanying the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra for tour to China at the end of the year. We helped by donating our performance that night and collected red packet donations from the tables at the function. We raised $238.95 for their fund raising effort that night. A big thanks to our members who gave up their Saturday night to travel to Research for the performance, our performance was very well received by the ACC.

Sheldon ReceptionsSheldon ReceptionsOn the weekend we had another wedding performance at Sheldon Receptions for Sang and Helen. Helen was at another function we performed at earlier in the year and was very keen to get us to perform for her wedding. We have uploaded a Youtube video of our performance. Plaza BallroomPlaza BallroomThe Hong De lions performed at the Regent Plaza Ballroom on the weekend for Lonely Planet's 40th Birthday celebrations. It was a night of multicultural performances with Brazillian dancers kicking off the entertainment followed by our three lions. Needless to say, the venue is a spectacular setting for our performance. A big thanks to Rhiannon for booking us!

Hubei Association

Hubei Association DinnerOur lions performed with the FCA Dragons for the celebration of a traditional Chinese Festival, now known more for Dragon Boat. We were at Austar Receptions in Forest Hills for the Hubei Association. The Consul General from China, Mr Shi WeiQiang was the official VIP at the event and performed dotting ceremony with Mr Hong Lim, Member for Clayton and Melbourne City Councillor Carl Jetter.

House Party in Camberwell House Party in CamberwellOn Sunday after training, we arrived in a house in Camberwell where the Going Away party has been in full swing for the whole afternoon. Our lion and Buddha entertained the guests and the children at the party. There were other activities at the party including Face Painting, Photo Booth, Trampoline and a Kung Fu class! We hope they enjoyed our performances! Good luck to Lincoln and his family in their move to Hong Kong!

Australia Building Centre - Preston Store OpeningOn Saturday 1st June, we had 3 lions performing at the opening of a branch of the Australia Building Centre in Preston. The warehouse is located right behind Stars Reception. Our lions performed the traditional 'Four Gates Blessing' and entertained guests at the opening before the ribbon cutting and the performance ended with the lighting of a string of firecrackers. Congratulations to Nick Cai and we wish him and his staff all the best!

 Adelyn and Andrew's wedding

The Hong De wedding lions travelled to Sherbrooke on the weekend to perform at Adelyn and Andrew's wedding on Poets Lane. As it was such a beautiful day, we decided to go up to the mountain earlier and enjoy a BBQ in the picnic grounds nearby. It turned out to be quite an adventure as half of our party decided to go for a long walk in the forest and got lost! We found them with the aid of Smart phone technology! Anyway, we got to the wedding on time and performed at the scheduled time. Congratulations to Adelyn and Andrew and thank you for letting us help you celebrate on your wedding day!
