Congratulations to all the teams for 3 days of exciting performances. Well done! Special mention to the following teams:
KSK D - The Arena was at full capacity for the Preliminary performance on Saturday and again on Sunday for the Finals when KSK Team D was performing. The performance opened with a crate labelled 'Made in Malaysia, Contents: 1pc Lion, KSK 6688', the sides of the crate dropped to reveal the Champions with coloured lights and pyrotechnics display. During the Preliminary round the performance was flawless with two 180 degree spins at the start of the performance. During the Finals, the 360 degree spin was added, much to the delight of the audience.
KSK E - The head player for this younger team is only 13 years old playing with a size 4 lion! Excellent performance with no mistake.
Nam Sieng - This orange lion has distinctive long fur and the performance featured a flying butterfly, controlled remotely. Both performances by this team was flawless. They also jumped from the same side as KSK, and performed the 180 degree spins.
Gor Chor - This was the only Futsan lion in the competition. The performance during the Preliminary round was flawless, giving them a score of 9.22. Unfortunately during the finals, a mistake costed them a deduction which reduced their score from 9.23 to 9.13. Even though they tied with Nam Sieng, they were awarded fourth place due to final point calculations.
Hong De's personal awards:
Best Dressed Team: Hong Kong's Wong Kwok Cheung - Orange and black theme. The team was outfitted with designer jeans, jackets and matching shoes with fluro orange laces! One of the team members even had matching orange frames on her glasses!
Best Moment: KSK Team D's 360 degree spin - they made it look so easy (during practice and finals)
Worst Moment: When Minh and Phillip from Khuan Yee fell
Best Cheer Squad: 'Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi' (there were 18 from NSW, 10 from Qld, 13 from Vic and 5 from WA)
Crowd Pleaser: The cymbal players from Dragon Phoenix, Indonesia. The crowd loved the girls' routine.
Encouragement Award: UK Yidao Team. Despite 2 medium falls and 3 small falls, the crowd cheered everytime the the tail saved the head from falling over. They had a Big Ben clock which was supposed to be mounted against one of the middle poles. This was misplaced during the competition and was not used for the performance. The clock showed 10 o'clock and when the gong player played the gong 10 times - the meaning was lost. I did spot the clock face in the Security Guard's office at the back of the Arena.....
Funny Moment: When the head gear of the cymbal player from Brunei's Chung Wah team came off near the end of the performance. He tried to put it back on, but did not sit properly and came off again during the final team salute. The final score was reduced from 8.75 to 8.69.
Worst Luck: Guangxi Rongshu team from China. The drum was not propped up properly on the drum stand. It fell at the start, the drummer put it back on the same position, and the audience could see what was going to happen next. Sure enough, it fell again - he finally positioned it properly much to the audience's relief! These two mistakes as well as a major fall reduced the final score from 8.68 to 6.48!
Most Point Deductions: Tarakan team from Indonesia. Their score of 9.0 was reduced to 6.1 after two medium falls, one major fall and a mistake.
Friendliest Teams: The Aussies and KSK teams!
Most Popular Lion Colour: Silver! There were 16 teams with silver lions/white fur, 7 with gold lions, one orange and one red.
Most Elaborate Music Costume: Chinese Taipei Team - hard to describe, but very elaborate - looks like entombed warriors from Xian!
Most Elaborate Banner: Kun Seng Keng
Most Elaborate Drum: KSK's flashing drum
Most Popular Lion Maker: Siow Sifu from Wan Seng Hang of course!
